Robinson Tennis Remains Undefeated in District Play

Facing a much improved China Spring team, the RHS varsity tennis team won a tough district match 11-8 over the Cougars.

The win, coupled with Groesbeck’s win over Gatesville, kept the Rockets in a tie for first place with Groesbeck in 17AAAA team tennis.

With another dominant performance by the boys’ squad, Robinson ran the table in boys’ matches, taking all 9 matches.  Coupled with 2 wins in girls’ singles, the squad posted their 4th win of the fall season.

While the boys’ doubles won all three of their contests, the girls’ doubles almost broke through with wins in each of their matches as well.  However, China Spring took the mixed doubles and also managed to win the three girls’ doubles matches (two of them in 3rd-set matchbreakers) and finished the doubles part of the match ahead 4-3.

That’s when the RHS boys’ took control of the match.  Although still hampered by a back injury that kept him off the court for 5 weeks, Noah Wingate stepped into the lineup at the #1 position and took his first singles win of the year 6-2, 7-5.  Casey Voss had a very rollercoaster match at #2, but pulled out the win in a matchbreaker 6-7, 6-1, (10-7).

Kerry Carriveau breezed through the #3 match winning easily 6-2, 6-3.  Rounding out the RHS wins were Caleb Diller (7-6, 6-1), John East (7-5, 6-2), and Cooper Hale (7-5, 6-1), each surviving close first sets and then dominating the second sets.

Needing at least one win from the girls’ team to clinch the match, Megan Litton rose to the occasion at the #1 slot with a very solid performance.  Her 6-0, 6-3 win sealed the victory for the Rockets.

Amanda Alsip added a little cushion for the team by winning the last match of the evening 7-5, 6-4 in a back-and-forth battle at #6.

Also getting a win in an extra match played was Parker Herring by a 6-2, 6-2 score.

Robinson’s next match will be Thursday, October 2 at Groesbeck HS.
