Rocket Freshman Takes 3rd At State

Wingate Finishes the Year With a Stellar 40-4 Record

RHS freshman, Noah Wingate, ended a remarkable first year of varsity competition by claiming a 3rd place finish at the 2015 Texas UIL State Tennis Tournament in College Station on May 13.

Wingate easily won his first state match by defeating Michael McBurney from Rockport-Fulton High School.  The 6-2, 6-0 win came after an almost 12 hour rain delay.

Facing Dawson Penn from Longview Spring Hill in the semifinals, Noah got off to a great start and took the first set 6-1.  However, the momentum shifted in the second set and the Rocket freshman slipped, losing the set 2-6.

The third and final set became a back and forth battle with neither player able to grab control until Penn took a service break from Wingate late in the set.  With that ever-so-slight boost in momentum, Penn closed the match by taking the set with a 6-4 score.

After the 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Wingate, Penn went on to capture the 2015 4A state championship in boys’ singles.

Noah ended the season with an impressive 40-4 win/loss record.

Also participating in the UIL State Tennis Tournament for the RHS Rockets was the mixed doubles team of Caleb Diller (SR) and Megan Litton (FR). Because of the extended rain delay throughout the day, Diller/Litton did not go on court to compete until 3:00 a.m.  After competing for almost 1 hour, the match was again interrupted by rain.  The duo finally got to complete their match at 10:45 a.m. later that morning.

Caleb and Megan ended a very successful spring season with a loss to Kaufman, who ultimately claimed the 2015 4A state championship in mixed doubles.

The Robinson Powerlifting teams sent a total of 6 kids to the Texas Powerlifting State Championships over the past two weeks.  This came after the boys won the team championship at the Regional Meet.  Probably the most prolific senior class of lifters to come through Robinson, this year's powerlifters put a stamp on a wonderful season.

In Corpus Christi at the Texas Girls State Championships, Shelby Kilpatrick finished her senior campaign as the 6th best powerlifter and the top deadlifter in the state of Texas in her weight class.  Shelby is a two-time state qualifier.
